If you were to buy 2 different cars (a dd and a Sunday stroller) and had up to $20k to spend on each one, what would you buy?

Edit: Up to $40k total between the 2 cars

Kinja'd!!!

I can tell you that right now, I'm in love with the Saturn Sky Redline edition (preferred) or the Pontiac Solstice GXP edition as my Sunday stroller.

And for my daily... a Magnum SRT8 with all the DD needs and a little HP to keep me busy!

Kinja'd!!!

What would you buy?

I'd get a really neat 95-97 F250 4x4 Powerstroke... and the rest of the money would... hmm.

Maybe an E38 7 series? If I could split them at $10 a piece that would be neat.

You basically read my mind except replace the GM with Miata.

Same answer. The other $20k is for gas.

I can respect that. But I just couldn't pass up a beauty like the Sky GXP. So fantastic!

I'll sell ya my Sky Redline for $20k. You'll have to look elsewhere for the Magnum.

I really really want a Focus ST as my DD but that doesn't fit within your constraints. That being said, I would grab a 2004 Jaguar XJR as a DD (15-20K); all aluminum, comfortable and supercharged, I can't go wrong.

Kinja'd!!!

For My Sunday Stroller: That poses an interesting challenge. I love Fox body Mustangs but I consider them more as a tinkering toy (and something I would drag or autocross) than a stroller. So If I had to pick a car to just enjoy and not toy with, maybe something like this '77 Ford Bronco.

Oh Who am I kidding... I would definitely toy with that too. Same would go for a '66 Fastback Mustang which is my other choice (and future project car).

My DD would be an E39 540i with the M Sport package and my fun car would probably be a 911 from the mid or late '70s.

Great choices. I could definitely see myself following suit with any of that. Especially the 66 fastback!

I had a bunch of scale 911's from that era when I was a kid. I really fell in love with those!

A Lotus Elan for the DD, and an Aston Martin Lagonda for the weekend. And if you have to ask why either of those, you're in the wrong place.

As a vocal proponent of the E39 540i, I wholeheartedly approve of this choice.

To me it's one of the ultimate daily driving cars. Ample power, nice appointments, and the option of a manual transmission. Plus decent mileage for long road trips.

If I convert this into £ then it'd probably be a Toyota GT86 and a Fiat 500 TwinAir, with £3000 to spend on options.

DD, because MPG and Reliability:

Kinja'd!!!

Spend $5k for a used MKIV TDI ($3000 for car, and $2000 for maintenance fund)

Spend the other $35K on your Sunday Car. My recommendation?

THIS Lotus Esprit :

For $40K

Daily: Ford Focus ST; Really any hot hatch, WRX Wagon, Mazdaspeed3, GTI, etc..

Sunday: 89 Lotus Esprit or Turbo; This is my choice, but really any high end or uncommon older sportscar, Something with the smell of old leather and design that catches the eye. Porsche 911SC, Porsche 928, C3 Corvette, etc...

I'd spend a bit above half on the daily. Then the rest on your Sunday. Dailies should be fun functional, always work, MPG minded safe and fun. This one would even have a warranty. The ST is perfect for a daily. You buy it, enjoy it, don't worry about it.

Most important leave it alone, don't void that warranty. It will be easy to leave it alone when you have to spend extra time to carefully maneuver your gigantic gonads every time you sit down; Your other car is an older imported sportscar with taste.

Yeah the ST is probably faster than the Lotus, or what ever your choice, in nearly every way, but I can't be as fun. If it is a Lotus Esprit, I'd suggest the 89 SE or Turbo as they are before the ugly airbag and power steering.

I think there are lot of variations of this theme possible. Choose a hot hatch and a old sportscar and have a ball (Actually 2 huge ones). Old sports cars are a ton of fun to drive and never really get called out, so there is no need to feel challenged and do stupid things to them. Roll around in an nice older sportscar and people just look and think about how much fun you are having. In the end you may have even chosen a car that gains value. Which could be used for testicle reduction surgery.

This is probably the perfect plan for anyone with both a fun streak and a responsible side.

I would have the exact garage I have now: A Mazdaspeed 3 as a DD and a Solstice GXP as a Sunday driver, even though I currently drive it more than the Mazda. I will put the extra 10k toward a motorcycle, currently a Kawaski Versys but I will probably be swapping that out soon for a Ducati Hyperstrada or a Yamaha FZ-09.

If I move to the snow I would swap the 3 for a WRX hatch or an older Forester XT manual.

Well I'll just say my plan then because its spot on for your question.

Kinja'd!!!

Currently DD a Crossfire I got for 9k. A year or two after school (I'm about to start my last year) I am going to get an Elise, and switch over to that for DDing and use the Crossfire for grocery duty. So there is the other 31k .... mark my words, this will happen.
